Looks like I’ll need to spend some time “debugging” all my solder joints because although all the chips are in the blinkenlights aren’t lighting up 😔

Good luck soldering =D Try and get it to compile gcc and see if there are backdoors 😛
Cool nice to see you working on it. I should do mine over Xmas as it’s been on my desk for 6 months. If you have really foobar’d the board I have a reasonable solder rework station that will have that board cleared in fairly short order and I would be able to use mine as a reference!
I’m quite sure it’s down to my shoddy soldering. Unfortunately I also ran out of solder, and I’ve misplaced my solder-sucker, so I have to sort those out while taking a close look at every joint under my USB microscope.
Yeah good solder and technique make perfect as you obviously know.
At one time I had some really fancy desolder stuf but now I use a couple of these which are fine:

Use one and you’ll never use a sucker again ….you can find them 20quid cheaper in the bargain mags they send out or look at them on their website
Looks nice. Even when I worked in the industry we didn’t use anything that fancy. Just a solder sucker or braid.
Agreed, that’s why we dont have an electronics industry to mention. When it comes to paying for rework time been able to be several times quicker is really work the <<£100 for the proper gear. I think RHAT would be rethinking your SW engineer rate if SW solder braid was the only option …Thanks to the internet gods for automation !
Good luck with the repair!
