JONESFORTH port to Raspberry Pi

Actually this was done about a year ago, but here it is anyway. The original JONESFORTH is written for i686, so the majority of the work was translating it to ARM EABI.

  1. Thanks for providing such a rich educational foundation on which we can build and experiment.

I’ve recently forked this project and removed the Linux dependency. pijFORTHos is a true bare-metal FORTH O/S using the RPi serial console. For more details, check out our project on github https://github.com/organix/pijFORTHos

Which version of Raspberry Pi (Zero, 1, 2, 3, A+, B+, etc.,) does pijForthos work on? Please let me know as soon as you can. Thank you and have a nice day!

pijFORTHos was developed in early 2014 on the Raspberry Pi model 1B available at that time. It has not been updated to newer hardware since then. Dale Schumacher

Thank you for replying. Do you think that the Raspberry Pi 1 B+ will work since the hardware is pretty much the same?

  2. One slightly different question: Could this version then be adapted to run on STARM Dev Boards or a MicroBit?

  3. In this context: The Book A Start With Forth is out now – and most of the chapters are there for free download and print https://wiki.forth-ev.de/doku.php/en:projects:a-start-with-forth:start0 and try Forth online – no download nor installation required using easyFORTH
